The area along the River Stour, and the Dedham Vale in particular, has become known as Constable Country, since the great English landscape artist John Constable memorialized the area in his paintings. It’s easy to see why the area has remained popular for both artists and photographers alike: the landscape is quintessentially English and the light here is often magical. This is particularly true in winter, when mist hugs the river, the ground is covered in heavy frost and the light is soft and pale. I never tire of photographing this area, and especially a small section of the Stour between Flatford Mill and Dedham.
