My Gear

Good equipment doesn’t by itself make for good images, but it certainly helps to have the best tools possible to be creative. I shoot with full frame, mirrorless cameras, in part because their electronic viewfinders allow image composition even in very low light. Until recently, I was using Canon equipment exclusively to shoot all of my images, both in daylight and at night. However, I recently switched to using a Sony camera and lenses for nightscape photography, since Sony’s fast prime lenses are among the best for capturing images in very low (or no) light.

I’m still able to use my Canon R6 and RF 15-35mm f/2.8 lens for night photography, and the Sony camera and lenses can also be used for daylight photography as well, so my current set-up is quite flexible.

Below is an image of the main gear I use for landscape photography. I’ve recently sold the Canon EOS R camera body and the Sigma 20mm lens to purchase the Sony gear that I now use primarily for nightscape photography.

Below is a picture of the equipment I use to shoot nightscape images (not shown are the Lume Cube lights I use, as these are shown in the above image).
